6 Things I’ve Learned By Writing Every Day For 6 Years [Short Blog]
#1. Writing is an art.
Just like dance, painting, or singing, writing is an art. You will take months or even years before your master it.
So, the only way to be better at it is to write and write a lot.
#2. Writing for businesses is not the same as writing a journal.
Over the past 6 months, I have mentored over 200 students. Majority of them think that if they are able to write poetries, they can also write for business.
Well, that’s a myth. Writing for businesses is a completely different game. Your thinking process changes. Your writing style changes. Your objective of writing changes.
Think about it and then start practising.
#3. Writing is 30% typing and 70% thinking.
“But it is just 500 words, you will take half hour.” Yes, it will take only half an hour. But that’s not true all the time.
Sometimes, it may take an hour or even a whole day to write a quality blog. Why? Because it is not just typing out sentences. You have to think and come up with the best way to create it.
#4. To be a good writer, You have to be a ruthless editor.
Your first drafts are not perfect. Not all the time. Thus, you have to become an editor. Put aside your emotions attached to the article and think from the perspective of your audience.
No doubt it is a difficult task but to be a better writer, you have to admit your mistakes and correct them on your own.
#5. Editors know everything.
It may sound creepy but it’s true. You have written in a hurry? They can sense it. You have plagiarised content? They can find it. You have put your heart in soul into it? They can feel it.
So, try not to be too smart. You will get caught.
#6. Write clear, not clever.
Whether you are a copywriter or a content writer, always aim for clarity. Why? Because the aim of your write-up is to decode things for the audience.
So, make things simple. You can, however, bring creativity via storytelling, flow, and tone. Focus on that and you are good to go.
That’s it for today. Happy writing!🙌
